Cairo tells Turkish ambassador 'We'll call you' and warns him not to return

A diplomatic crisis, simmering for months between Cairo and Ankara, finally came to a head on Saturday with the Egyptians ordering the Turkish ambassador not to return to the country.

Egypt accuses him and Turkey of “attempting to influence public opinion against Egyptian interests, supporting meetings or organisations that seek to create instability in the country”, a coded reference to the banned Muslim Brotherhood, with whom the ruling Turkish AK party has close ties, and whose leader and deposed president, the jailed Mohammed Mursi, is a friend of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkey says it will reciprocate with diplomatic measures against Egypt in the coming hours.
