U.S. carrier starts Philippine storm relief as Aquino comes under pressure

Aid to the stricken Philippines continued to arrive on Thursday, notably from the U.S.

It's sent the aircraft carrier George Washington along with other ships to distribute supplies to the hardest hit areas.

The relief response to this island nation in the aftermath of super typhoon Haiyan is now a "full-court" international effort, said the commander of the U.S. aid effort in the Philippines General Paul Kennedy.

SOUNDBITE: COMMANDER OF THE U.S. AID EFFORT IN THE PHILIPPINES GENERAL PAUL KENNEDY SAYING:

"All I've seen today are folks from countless nations flying in and out of Tacloban. They're flying out of Mactan airfield in Cebu. Every flag you can imagine is represented."

The George Washington has fixed-wing aircraft and some 5,000 crew members to help make and distribute much-needed drinking water.
