If you thought the summer slate for 2015 was strong, December looks like it's going to really end the year with a bang because Mission Impossible 5 gets a holiday release date. It is official, the mission has been accepted. Mission Impossible 5 will be hitting theaters on December 25th, 2015 and Tom Cruise will be back to reprise the role of Ethan Hunt. Cruise will once again be working alongside director Christopher McQuarrie. These two worked together on last years crime thriller, Jack Reacher, and Iron Man 3 co-writer Drew Pearce is currently writing the script. This release date is kind of interesting, and a bit ambitious being that JJ Abrams, who is producing Mission Impossible 5 under his Bad Robot production company, is also producing, writing and directing Star Wars Episode VII, which is now also opening in December of 2015 on the 18th. And the December slate is already shaping up to be a busy and somewhat competitive month at the the box office, with movies like Kung Fu Panda 3, Ben Afflecks adaptation of Dennis Lehane's crime novel Live By Night, Sony's Inferno, and Legendary and Universal's Warcraft, all opening between December 18th and December 25th. The Mission Impossible franchise got a boost back in 2011, when the Brad Bird directed Ghost Protocol got positive reviews from audiences, so positive that the film's worldwide total earnings were over $694 million dollars. So, do you think that Christopher McQuarrie can keep that franchise momentum going? And what do you think about Mission Impossible 5 opening during such a jam packed weekend?
