Typhoon Haiyan brings gales, rainstorms to south China

STORY: Typhoon Haiyan, the 30th and strongest typhoon to hit China this year, brought gales and downpours to south China's Hainan province on Sunday (November 10), state media reported.
The National Meteorological Center on Sunday raised the warning for Typhoon Haiyan to red, the highest level on its four-color typhoon warning system, according to official Xinhua news agency.
Haiyan, the most powerful typhoon in the world so far this year, made landfall in northern Vietnam on Monday (November 11) morning, shortly after shifting its direction to the north.
The center said the force of Haiyan has weakened, but it is still expected to affect Hainan, Guangdong and Guangxi province in south China on Monday, causing heavy rains.
Six people went missing on Sunday after the storm cut the mooring rope of their vessel, which had been anchored in the port of Sansha city in Hainan, state television CCTV said.
