Hollywood really wanted Green Lantern to work, and to some extent, so did audiences. Yet the decision to cast Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan drew a mixed reaction, and the decision to cast Blake Lively went over even worse, which put the film in danger from the start. Even the behind-the-scenes dream team of Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, Casino Royale) and Greg Berlanti (Arrow) wasn't enough to rally moviegoers, who came away utterly unimpressed. Hal Jordan may be a underrated super hero, but his comic legacy deserved better than this 2011 box office flop.
