Marsalis Wild Man blues

Wild Man Blues Marsalis Wynton 2000

One of the tunes which has intrigued and interested me all my jazz appreciation life is the Wild Man Blues. As a kid I even had the 1927 recording of Louis Armstrong's Hot Seven on a 78.
In the seventies I got an LP with this tune being played in 1959 by Henri Red Allen. My favourite film clip is with Allen, Hawkins, Dickenson, Pee Wee Russell and Rex Stewart, and yes.... somewhere that is on dailymotion as well. Search for Red Allen.
Since then I have played the tune many a time myself and probably even recorded it.
And now, some six years after this was filmed in 2000 I see Wynton Maralis' approach to it. Here is a genius at work. It is not just the technique, which is stuning, but it is his timing, his jazzfeel.
All I can say; Thank you Wynton for being able to give us this.
Another surprise to me was to see clarinet giant Bob Wilber appearing as a guest and play a superb clarinet exchange chorus together with Wynton's clarinet man.
