Since being founded towards the end of the year 1993 the Band has come a long way
realising their vision of a new and unique form of brass music. During this process singer Katie LaVoix' compositions and lyrics progressively became the central element of the Bands musical core statement - Intense songs full of lived experiences beyond compare and meaningful, an echo of real life emerging from beneath the surface.
This sovereignty plus courage and patience in utilizing own creative potentials put the Band in a prominent position within the New European Brass Movement. It proved worthwhile to have come this long way. In their live performances as well as on their recordings of the past 8 years Beat 'n Blow developed into an absolutely authentic act magnetizing their audiences.
Dublin Fringe Festival labels the Bands' style: ' a revolutionary mix of Jazz,Funk,HipHop and World Styles!'
The Story:
At first Beat 'n Blow was meant to be an instrumental street band. They squeezed themselves into two old Volkswagen vans heading down to Italy for a carefree busking summer tour.
In 1996 their first album 'modern brass' was released.
After the concept album 'Songs' had been released in 2000 they needed a little while to prepare and record their third CD 'Time' in 2003, featuring the singers Katie LaVoix and Uli Wolf, both being excellent songwriters.
The year 2006 saw the release of 'Sound of BlasMusik'. This was the first album presenting a concrete form of the Bands unique concept. The single 'Girl' was being broadcasted in the daily shows of Funkhaus Europa, Radio Multikulti, and Radio Bremen and won the Carnival Of Cultures Song Contest in 2007.
In September 2009 the fourth album 'Hund Ohne Leine' was released, the next musical quantum leap ( the dimension of which almost came as a surprise to the Band). At this point in time they finally cut loose from any conventions and musical ties.
The next CD 'Nackt Und Roh' was released in November 2011 on Herzog Records, a renowned label based in Hamburg. Touring in 2011 and 2012 took them as far as New Delhi and Moscow.
Being awarded the 'Special Prize of the Jury' at Haizetara Street Band Contest, connected with a tour invitation to Basque Country in 2013.
After the Europe Tour in 2013 Beat 'n Blow is currently busy at studio recording new and even more distinct material for the upcoming CD to be released April 11th, 2014, again on Herzog.
