Cambodia factory collapse: 23 injured during lunch break
  • 11 years ago
Twenty-three people were injured in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh after a garment factory rest area and walkway collapsed, according to reports.
At around 11:30 a.m., workers left the factory to take their lunch break on a sheltered platform above a pond, the Phnom Penh Post reported.
Around 20 workers were standing on the platform and eating when the structure began crumbling beneath them. The whole structure collapsed on top of workers and many of them fell into the water of a pond.
Some of the workers tried to run from the shelter to escape, but the walkway also collapsed. Among them was a pregnant woman.
The workers were taken to two different hospitals, Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital and Meanchey District Hospital, the Post reported. None of them were seriously injured.
The accident comes only five days after another factory in Cambodia's Kampong Speu province collapsed with factory workers inside.
