Prototype app hopes to reduce collisions for those texting while walking
  • 11 years ago
A University of Manitoba researcher has created a prototype collision avoidance device to warn people that use mobile device while walking of approaching obstacles.
The CrashAlert employs a kinect motion sensor attached to a tablet or mobile phone.
Obstacles within a range of around 2m are represented by red squares in an on-screen bar, allowing users to note approaching obstacles and avoid colliding with them.
The inventor hopes to miniaturize the technology in future with a view to integrating it into tablets and smartphones.
