Syrian tv shows footage of the funeral for General Jama'a Jama'a, the top military intelligence officer shot by snipers during a battle with rebels on Thursday.
The public funeral was held in his home village of Zama, in the mountains overlooking the Mediterranean.
It's the heartland of President Bashar al-Assad's Alawite sect.
Jama'a's death was celebrated by rebels and opposition activists.
The European Union imposed sanctions on him in 2011, five months after protests first erupted, for what it called his role in repression and violence against the civilian population.
