In a flash of smoke, the war in Syria continues to rage on.

The latest amateur video from the embattled country appears to show rebels engaging in firefights throughout the country.

In Deir al-Zor, rebels and civilians are celebrating the death of the head of Syrian military intelligence, General Jama'a Jama'a, who was shot dead by sniper fire on Thursday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the battle included forces linked to al Qaeda.

Syrian television confirmed his death, saying the general had been martyred while defending the country against terrorists.

Activists say the Syrian army retaliated with intense bombing in the area.

More amateur video shows rebel shelling of a Damascus neighborhood loyal to the Syrian government.

The video appears to show rebels reloading cannons for more shelling against the Shabiha, a group comprised of armed regime supporters in the Alawite neighborhood of Ish al-Warwar.
