Philippines quake kills 173, severely damages natural and historic landmarks

The death toll from Tuesday's powerful quake in the central Philippines now stands at 173 people killed.

Hundreds were injured and some three million have been affected.

But there's another cost.

The 7.2 magnitude quake destroyed some of the islands' most popular tourist sites...centuries-old churches, landmarks and natural wonders.

Gone.

Gone, too…the tourism money many of those affected by the quake relied on.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) TOWN ADMINISTRATOR NARCISO TORIBIO SAYING:

"All, everything is gone, so no operation, no tourist, no income."

Most of the fatalities were here, at the epicenter in Bohol Island, where the famous Chocolate Hills lie.

Some of the once-perfect cone-shaped domes…now just rubble.

But among the destruction…stories of hope.
