Cairo catfight: Thai diplomat injures Egyptian lawyer

An Egyptian lawyer was allegedly injured during a catfight with a Thai diplomat at the Kempinski Nile hotel in Cairo last Thursday evening. Kakanang Amaranand was drinking at the hotel's Jazz bar with colleague Rana Ashraf and her husband.
According to reports, Amaranand was drinking heavily and allegedly bragged about her diplomatic immunity while lambasting Egypt. She allegedly said that Egypt was "a horrible country with horrible people" and made obscene gestures, the Daily News Egypt reported. She then allegedly asked for the couple's email address and sent them a very rude email.

The situation escalated when Ashraf's husband started yelling at Amaranand and knocked her phone from her hand, the Daily News Egypt reported. Ashraf stepped between the two, but Amaranand allegedly pushed her onto a couch, kicked her several times in the face with her heels, pulled her hair and bit her on her arm drawing blood.
Ashraf was left with a black eye, a cut to her head, four deep bite marks on her arm and scratches all over her body.

According to the Bangkok Post, the diplomat has insisted she acted in self-defence while Mrs. Ashraf demanded that she have a drug test as well as a psychological evaluation. The Thai embassy has said it will investigate the incident.
