Drivers in Germany have been faced with a radical new anti-speeding initiative, the so-called 'blitz marathon'.

Over a 24-hour period, starting on Thursday morning, police officers were stationed with cameras at more than 8,500 locations across the country.

People caught breaking the speed limit faced 25 euro fines.
