Canadian author Alice Munro, 82, has been awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize for Literature.
Peter Englund, permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy, made the announcement, calling Munro a "master of the contemporary short story".
Munro is only the 13th woman to win the prestigious Nobel. She adds it to an already bulging trophy chest that includes the 2009 Man Booker.
