A retired army doctor was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of killing his wife, dismembering her and hiding her body parts in boxes inside their house in Bhubaneswar, North India.

According to reports, 71-years-old Somanath Parida allegedly chopped his wife's body into small pieces and put them in 22 metal containers and two steel boxes for up to 19 days. When a nephew came to visit, Parida told him to leave saying his wife had gone to visit their daughter in Dubai. More relatives visited the house on Friday. When they didn't find his wife they informed the police.

After searching the house, police found his wife's mutilated remains together with some instruments allegedly used to cut up her body, as well as bones fragments in a plastic bag in the bathroom. According to reports, Parida admitted to dismembering his wife's body but not to murder, saying she committed suicide before he chopped her up for cremation.
