Chopin was a very young man aged only twenty years old, when he wrote this piece. He was a recent Polish refugee to Paris, and like so many refugees, was full of anger about what was happening in his homeland. This etude has been nicknamed, 'Revolutionary etude' or 'Etude of the Bombardment of Warsaw', both titles which very well describe the range of emotions that Chopin has so beautifully written in his music.
Chopin, the true master of the piano, is part of almost every pianist's repertoire. His ability to express divine beauty through his compositions continues to impress musicians and audiences to this day. It's a privilege to play Chopin and to do so is one of the greatest joys of my life.
