SWAT team end Louisiana bank hostage standoff, kill gunman

A SWAT team stormed a branch of the Tensas State bank in St. Joseph, Louisiana, early Wednesday morning, killing gunman Fuaed Abdo Ahmed who fatally shot one hostage and injured another during a dramatic 12-hour siege.

The 20-year old gunman entered the Tensas State Bank on Plank Road just after noon on Tuesday, taking three staff members hostage.

After negotiations with police that also reportedly involved a friend of the gunman's in Alaska, Ahmed released one of the female tellers.

Described as a paranoid schizophrenic by local police, Ahmed reportedly told negotiators that he had a device implanted in his brain and could hear voices. He told police that he wanted them to remove it.

SWAT team members stormed the bank after Ahmed said during ongoing negotiations that he was going to kill the hostages. Ahmed shot both hostages in the upper body before he was shot and killed.

The wounded hostages were rushed to local hospitals where one of them died later from their injuries.
