The actor was born on 28 november 1986 son of bollywood actor and politician raj babbar and late actress smita patil....prateik assisted advertisement films makers prahlad kakkar for a years as a production assistant...during this time prateik was cast in advertisement films for several companies including kit kat.....prateik made his acting debut in aamir khan production jane tu ya jane na....along side imran khan and godgious genelia d'souza...... amit won him plaudits from critics and earned him many awards and nominations........teh film got a huge success ......then he next appeared in kiran rao's dhobi ghaat which opened a positive reviews at film festival worldwide.....he will also feature in the action thriller dum maro dum with abhishek bachchan and rana daggubati.
