'Urban Folk' Maestro performs 'Walking Talking Contradictions'

Susmit Bose- who calls himself Urban Folk singer performs at World AIDS day in 1996.

The two-hour programme had songs - including songs by students of Springdales School - interwoven with messages which highlighted issues relevant to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The audience pledged to carry these messages forward into the world.

The concert was a first step in the process of trying to teach people to live with the presence of HIV/AIDS epidemic in society. For, while HIV is a deadly virus, the virus of discrimination and stigma is much worse.

Susmit Bose (Nov. 1, 1950 - ) is an Indian musician whose songs often deal with social issues; human rights, global peace and non violence. He has been making music since the 1970s and has also been involved in making documentaries and films on socio cultural aspects of India.


This was a performance for World AIDS day in Delhi in 1996. World AIDS Day, observed on 1 December every year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. Government and health officials observe the day, often with speeches or forums on the AIDS topics. Since 1995, the President of the United States has made an official proclamation on World AIDS Day. Governments of other nations have followed suit and issued similar announcements.
