The remake of the 1974 crime drama, The Gambler, isn't dead! We've got some updates on the project that you definitely want to know about! There is still progress being made on the remake of The Gambler, and today we are hearing from Variety that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director, Rupert Wyatt, is currently in talks to direct the project with Mark Wahlberg being in the early stages of negotiations to star. Previously, we had heard that The Hangover director, Todd Phillips was set to direct and Leonardo Di Caprio was on board to star. But because it was taking so long for the movie to really move in the development process, it seems as thought these two moved on to other projects. Wahlberg has a great relationship with Paramount, which may have a lot to do with him being offered this role. He was a huge part of Pain & Gain's success for the studio, and he will likely bode well for the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction. The original The Gambler was about a professor who is having issues with his gambling problem, and finds himself wrapped up in some drama with some local thugs. The new script will be written by The Departed scribe, William Monahan, and the film will be produced by Rocky producer, Irwin Winkler.
