Zuma: Mandela in critical condition, responding to treatment

Crowds gathered outside the home of Nelson Mandela, who returned here over the weekend after spending 87 days in the hospital.

SOUNDBITE: South African President Jacob Zuma saying:

"He remains critical but still responding to treatment. I think we feel very good that he reached a point that the doctors treating him felt that he could now leave the hospital to his home. Which indicates the progress he had made. So I'm very happy, I'm sure we are all wishing him a speedy recovery."

Zuma says the former leader will continue to receive medical treatment at his home in Johannesburg. He also added that there has been talk of taking Mandela to Qunu, the village on the Eastern Cape where he was born.
