Prime Minister Stephen Harper prorogued (suspended) the Canadian Parliament during the 2010 Olympics. My father wrote the original song: Prorogue, Prorogue at that time. It was lost with the deletion of my "emotion999" channel....As PM Harper is proroguing parliament again, my dad wrote an updated version.
lyrics:
we are members of parliament who don't have to go to work
for our prime minister, Stevie Harper, granted us another perk
we'll watch the olympics from priviliged seat day after fine day
and while we enjoy the spectacle we'll draw down full pay

unemployment, poverty, torture, war , pollution
don't have to talk abou that stuff, for here is the solution
sit and watch the athletes compete in games of spor and play .....

hey, hey hey there!!!! that was the last time he prorogued parliament.. what!! he's doing it again?

Poor Wallen and Duffy (not poor Senators, but rich)
News stories to distract us from our heading to the ditch
A ditch of increasing inequality and rampant pollutions
Our elected MP's should be working for solutions

Questions can be raised, although the answers may be fudged
Yet in Parliamentary democracy, by the people, they'll be judged
The government will say that they are doing just fine
But then all can listen to a different party line

Prorogue, prorogue, hip, hip hooray
We don't have to go to work and still get our full pay
Prorogue, prorogue, right on brother Steve
We're just sitting fine; we love those clever webs you weave.

Conservative party coffers have loads of money galore
Their rich corporate supporters are making more and more
Capital gains, dividends, and tax deductions too
Are all expenses claimed legitimate and true?

We have the left, we have the right, who often disagree
Compromise is the price we pay in a democracy
To compromise ,we must discuss and all must have their say
But instead of work, our clever rogue, gives us a holiday

Prorogue, prorogue, hip, hip hooray
We don't have to go to work and still get our pay
Prorogue, prorogue, right on brother Steve
We're just sitting fine; we love those clever webs you weave.

Prime Minster Harper merely turns a blind eye
His perceptions of reality are but a pie in the sky
Global warming, poverty, and inequality grow
He says prorogue parliament -- maintain the status quo.

Prorogue, prorogue, hip, hip hooray
We don't have to go to work and still get our pay
Prorogue, prorogue, right on brother Steve
We're just sitting fine; we love those clever webs you weave.
