Madrid, Aug 22 (EFE).- Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso successfully underwent an operation on his right foot Thursday. The player fractured his fifth metatarsal bone during a training session on Wednesday and was operated by the club's private doctors. The procedure was "minimally invasive" and the Basque player could be back on the pitch in two to three months.
At the time of the fracture, the player was about to overcome an injury that forced him to undergo another operation in June, making him miss the Confederations Cup.
