1:00 min - Eisenhower preferred covert ops and proxy wars to committing troops in foreign lands. During his term, he got America covertly involved in Iran and Guatemala and even South Vietnam.

While he was successful in toppling the govts in Iran and Guatemala (1950s), his decision to get America involved in South Vietnam will prove very costly in the next two decades to come. As we now all know, what started as a covert involvement in South Vietnam actually escalated into a full scale war that haunted both Vietnamese and Americans for many years.
