An interview of Luciano Coutinho, President of the BNDES, recorded during the International Conference "An innovative society for the XXI century" held at Paris on July 12 & 13. To reply the question "How to restart the growth of economy" we should first look at the major trends: acceleration of technical progress, climate change, persistance of inquality in unemployment, etc. For Luciano Coutinho, the answer is to fin a new model of development. Main drivers for this are innovation related with new services for health, education; and innovation focused on climate change. Cooperation between the State and the private sector is a key element for him to create employment. State should create incentives so as to mobilize the private sector to take the lead in terms of innovations that may create a lot of jobs (in design, R&D, marketing, distribution, advertising, etc.).
