As the night wore on, a large fire burned on the Sixth of October Bridge that crosses the Nile.
The injured were treated by doctors who set up an impromptu field hospital, with some suffering from teargas inhalation and others hurt by stones or rubber bullets.
At least five people were admitted to hospital.
