Two people are confirmed dead after an Asiana Boeing 777 crash landed at the San Francisco International Airport on Saturday. More than 180 people were injured.

It's still unclear what happened, exactly, but officials and witnesses said the plane appeared to hit the edge of the approach area of the runway.

The tail came off and the plane left a trail of debris before coming to a halt.

One witness recounted what he saw.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) GREG CLAXTON, SAYING:

"I saw a plane coming in really fast and it appeared to be coming in pretty hard, and then I saw sparks from one of the engines and that was probably because of the landing incident, of course. And then it spun, did a 360, and then a bunch of smoke, fire, of course, is what you saw.

Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board are on their way to the scene.

There were 307 people on board including 61 U.S. citizens, 77 Koreans, 141 Chinese and 1 Japanese.
