Mursi denounces military coup

Residents in Egypt's Sharqiya governorate cheer in the streets, jubilant Mohamed Mursi is no longer at the country's helm.

Mursi, the country's first democratically elected leader, was ousted out by the military on Wednesday evening.

A video which briefly appeared on the presidency's official YouTube channel that same day, appears to show the deposed president denouncing his removal before he was arrested and taken to a military facility.

Several other high-ranking members of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist group from which Mursi hails, were also arrested

On Thursday morning, Mursi supporters in the capital said the military's decision to end the president's rule early could only be described as a coup.

They also vowed to continue protesting until Mursi was returned to office, with many here fearing a return to the previous regime's crackdown on Islamist groups.

The president's overthrow was met with delight by millions who claim the government
