Train drivers' anger at not being paid spills over into all-out rioting in the Argentine capital.

Shops and windows at Buenos Aires Constitucion station came under a hail of rocks and other missiles.

Scuffles broke out as police moved in to stop the violence.

More than 800, 000 commuters were stranded as the incident affected rail services across the city.

Argentina's interior minister blamed members of a single powerful trade union.

(SOUNDBITE)(Spanish) ARGENTINA'S INTERIOR MINISTER FLORENCIO RANDAZZO SAYING:

"There is no doubt that these incidents were intentional. Just by watching tv you don't need any more information. Those responsible are from Omar Maturano's La Fraternidad."

Eighteen people have been arrested in connection with the rioting.

The city's metro system has been criticised in recent years for its poor conditions and lack of investment in staff and infrastructure.
