Former U.S. Marine General James Cartwright, seen here in file footage, is at the centre of a major leak inquiry.
He's in the spotlight in a U.S. Department of Justice investigation into the leak of classified information.
NBC News is reporting that Cartwright allegedly revealed information connected to the Stuxnet computer virus used against Iranian nuclear facilities in 2008.
The virus temporarily disabled 1, 000 of Iran's centrifuges used to enrich uranium.
Cartwright was responsible for overseeing and running cyber operations between 2007 to 2011.
He also served as vice-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
