Istanbul's governor called for calm in Turkey's largest city on Sunday (June 16) after days of anti-government protests.
Riot police fired occasional bursts of teargas in the city after a night of unrest to try to prevent demonstrators from regrouping ahead of a rally by Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's ruling party.
Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu said people should not respond to calls to gather again later in the afternoon.
He also said some police had been hurt in the confrontations.

"Two security personnel - one commander and an officer - were wounded by a pistol during the clashes with protesters."
The unrest, in which police have fired teargas and water cannon at stone-throwing protesters night after night in cities including Istanbul and Ankara, has left four people dead and about 5,000 injured, according to the Turkish Medical Association.
