STORY: Well-wishers arrived with flowers and balloons for Nelson Mandela at his home on Thursday as he spent the sixth day in hospital receiving intensive care treatment for a recurring lung infection.

A family carrying flowers and balloons delivered their gifts straight to Mandela's home in Johannesburg district of Houghton where it was received by a security guard.

Local resident Kharima said they were praying for Mandela's speedy recovery.

"The seven colors of the rainbow that they chose signify the rainbow nation. So the balloons are there to tell him we are praying for him. We are thinking of him and we hope that he has a speedy recovery," she said after handing over her gifts.

Another resident placing a 'get well' message outside of the house said people were not ready to let the anti-apartheid hero go.

"We are not ready for him to go yet. Not yet. We just hope he gets better," said Jema Allan.
