Flood water has forced thousands of people from their homes in Germany's Salzland county.
A dyke has given way under the weight of the deluge - where the Elba and Saale rivers meet, south of the city of Magdeburg.
The Commissioner of Salzland County, Ulrich Gersterer, warned that people should not attempt to save the dyke:
