Crews search for trapped victims after Philadelphia building collapse

Rescue workers in downtown Philadelphia searched Wednesday for at least two people trapped under rubble, after a four-story building collapsed in the Center City neighborhood.

Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said twelve others had been rescued from the debris and taken to area hospitals.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PHILADELPHIA FIRE COMMISSIONER LLOYD AYERS SAYING:

"They have all been transported as Class 3's, which means that they have minor injuries to being stable so that's really good."

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PHILADELPHIA MAYOR MICHAEL NUTTER SAYING:

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter reminded the public the site remained an active search and rescue operation.

"It is delicate, this is dangerous work."

The collapse is believed to have happened during the scheduled demolition of an adjacent building.
