00:00The final stage of La Vuelta and 2025's last Grand Tour.
00:04UAE's Jay Vine claiming the King of the Mountains jersey, but Visma celebrating the big prize,
00:10Jonas Winagor's coronation as La Vuelta champion on the procession to Madrid.
00:15The one man who knows that winning sprint feeling in the Spanish capital is Elia Viviani.
00:20The Italian will look to overcome Jasper Philipson if he's to rediscover that sensation.
00:24Madrid is one of the best wins of my career. I mean special place, the ceremony after a Grand Tour is always a special feeling.
00:34So as I say at the start of this Vuelta, the first one and the last one was a special one for the sprinter,
00:39because the first one it was a red jersey in Turin in Italy and this one for any other reason.
00:45After a gruelling three weeks, the end in sight and the hot favourite for the stage is Philipson.
00:50The Belgian aiming for a fourth stage success, win or lose the 27-year-old wants to celebrate
00:55after his only previous Vuelta finish five years ago.
01:02We already did finish one time Vuelta in 2020 Covid edition Madrid and then we weren't able to go to
01:10a restaurant or whatever so it would be nice to have a good dinner with the team together this evening.
01:17It's not a foregone conclusion as Philipson's teammate Caden Groves can attest.
01:22The Australian won from the breakaway in 2023's finale. Food for thought for those in the peloton.
01:30With the way the circuit is it can be really difficult in the peloton to stay up there and
01:35yeah sometimes it can work out for a couple of guys up the road. I think a few years ago we saw
01:40a breakaway nearly stay away with two guys so yeah we never know.
01:51Away from the metropole of Madrid the race starting in the town of Al Al Pardo as they travel south
01:57before entering the urban jungle of Madrid. A virtually flat 111.6 kilometre route meaning the
02:03likeliest outcome is the fast men being let loose.
02:14La Vuelta's final stage is traditionally a slow procession into Madrid, primarily a celebration of
02:19the edition's protagonists and jersey winners. A photo shoot, a sip of champagne with an end of term
02:26atmosphere before heading on vacation. For the occasion Visma Lisa Bike wore special black jerseys
02:36with red accents honouring overall winner Jonas Vinagor a first title won in Madrid.
02:43At 82 kilometres from the finish the peloton finally entering the Spanish capital hosting La Vuelta's
02:49finale for the 80th time. The pace began to rise as they approached the first of nine scheduled circuits
02:55before decisive tenth. The pace picked up as the peloton prepared to get down to business heading towards
03:02a first crossing of the finish line that ultimately would not happen. Due to demonstrations in the streets
03:09of Madrid the race cut short. The riders made clear any issues they'd refuse to continue. That's what
03:15transpired. The 2025 Vuelta ended here. Jonas Wengergaard is not going to ride into Madrid. He is shaking
03:28hands with his team and saying thank you very much. Congratulations.
03:37Veragor's first Vuelta victory and his first red jersey. João Almeida and Tom Pidcock completing the top
03:44three. Mads Pedersen secured his second Vuelta green jersey. Jay Vines successfully defended his
03:49polka dot jersey from last year and Matthew Riccatello crowned the best young rider of this edition.
03:56La Vuelta back in 2026 as we await an exciting Grand Depart from Monaco.
