00:03You probably assume that it's to pick up food, which is correct.

00:07But don't you believe that they could have simply created forks?

00:10So what could be the reasoning for that?

00:12You might not be aware, but there was originally another justification for the use of chopsticks

00:16when you're a child, right?

00:18What do you think using chopsticks teaches you?

00:24I mean, go and pick up two chopsticks and try to eat a bowl of rice with them.

00:31The overlooked original purpose of chopsticks was to develop a callus.

00:37And the reason for that callus was allegedly to help villagers catch arrows during raids

00:43back in the day.

00:44When a village was being raided and arrows were just falling, the common folk would literally

00:49step outside and catch arrows.

00:51This is just a theory, but it makes sense.

00:53They even made a game out of it, apparently, like whoever got the most arrows got a fork.

00:58And the losers would take home the arrows and create more chopsticks,

01:02in hopes of winning a fork one day to eat faster than everybody.
