Burnley FC writer Matt Scrafton delivers his verdict on the opening day 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.
Transcript
00:00Just outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, now the season is up and running.
00:06Burnley starting with a 3-0 defeat here in North London.
00:10Really harsh on Burnley, I thought for much of that, Burnley played really well.
00:13If they had a game plan to push straight Tottenham, keep it tight, also create chances.
00:17They did much of that to be honest.
00:20The first hour or so especially, Burnley won more than the match for Tottenham.
00:24Had chances, just as many if not more than Tottenham's score.
00:28But as we all know, in the Premier League, it's brutal.
00:33The quality on the show is brutal.
00:34If you miss a chance, often not a minute later.
00:37The other side got the other end on the score and that's what happened.
00:41They did well stay in the game at 1-0 for that first hour or so.
00:44But then they had two massive chances.
00:45Hannibal and Jane Anthony as well.
00:48Take one of those, 1-1 after an hour.
00:50The stadium's getting nervy.
00:52But they didn't take it and that's going to be the big decisive point in the season.
00:56Can they take those chances when they come?
00:58But then Tottenham scored twice in six or seven minutes and the game was over.
01:03When, you know, only three minutes before, they look like they can get some out of it.
01:06So, you know, that's nothing new for Burnley fans.
01:08They know what it's like in the Premier League.
01:09It's brutal.
01:10It's clinical stuff on Tottenham.
01:13Thankfully, they won't be facing this type of opposition every week.
01:17Although, there are some very good sides in this division.
01:20So, yeah.
01:20Up and running with the team at Tottenham.
01:21But a lot, a lot to be encouraged about.
01:23Lost its big game away to Sonnen next week and need to get something from that.
