Tottenham Hotspur Football Club was formed on 5th September 1882, originally playing in navy blue shirts. Today, the club is one of the most popular in English football and play in white, with an aquamarine away strip. As with every club Spurs have had their fair share of ups and downs in their 131 year history.

Their most successful period to date was the 1960s and 1970s, when major trophies seemed to be drawn to the club via some magnetic force. They could almost do no wrong. They have won the League Cup four times, twice in the early 1970s, and have enjoyed FA Cup success on no fewer than eight occasions. The FA Charity Shield has been theirs alone four times, and jointly on three occasions. Although they have enjoyed some success in Europe, winning the 1962/63 Cup Winners Cup, and twice securing the UEFA Cup, it is in home competitions that the club has enjoyed most success.

In the last couple of decades Tottenham Hotspur FC have lost a little of their shine, but fans like James Hoile know that their continued dedication to the club will once again be rewarded if they are patient. The last major title won by the club was in 2007/8, when they won the League Cup. This was the first trophy to adorn the White Hart Lane cabinet since they last brought home the same title in 1998/9. It is a sign perhaps the club is once again climbing towards a peak of success.

Despite the lack of trophies, the club has performed consistently in the premier league, ranking within the top 15 in every year since the new millennium and in the top 10 over the last five years alone. The sense of excitement about the club's performance is mounting. They will always be champions in the eyes of diehard fans like James Hoile, and all the signs suggest that Tottenham Hotspur FC is rising once again to a level where other top clubs need to beware. Champions of the past, and once again champions in waiting, the Spurs of today are a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League
