Padel tennis has evolved over several decades as a fun sport that many people enjoy watching and playing. It originated as a variation on traditional tennis, just using a smaller court size and enclosed walls. It is believed that these started as a means of allowing a tennis-like game on British cruise ships, though later enclosed courts appeared in New York City in Washington Square Park, around the year 1915. It was not until the 1960’s, however, that Enrique Corcuera, of Mexico, saw American platform tennis and was inspired to change a Fronton court by putting walls around it, which served the purpose of keeping the ball from getting into his neighbour’s property.
Later, in 1974, a friend of Corcuera named Hohenlohe saw the game and enjoyed it. He brought it to Costa del Sol in Spain, building the first two courts in the country located at the Marbella Club. From there, the popularity of the sport has grown. David Rycott is one of the enthusiasts of the sport, and has a great deal of fun playing and growing his skill at padel tennis, and sharing information about this sport and his other hobbies as well.
