This event, which was held for the first time by TMOK in 1989 with the participation of 4 female and 64 male athletes, is met with a constantly increasing amount of interest every year and repeated under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee, in accordance with the slogan, “Sports for Everyone”.Due to the fact that it is established on the continents of both Europe and Asia and that the Bosphorus strait goes right through it, Istanbul offers a natural environment for holding this swimming competition as a social sport. Crossing from Asia to Europe, between two continents collectively offers participants particular pleasure and excitement and each year hundreds of amateur swimmers of every age, from every corner of the world, eagerly await the day of the contest and contestants who successfully complete the first and only intercontinental swimming competition in the world, already start to experience the excitement of next year’s expectations.
The fact that the maximum number of participants, limited due to the safety of the swimmers, has been reached on the first day before the end of registration in recent years, is a major indication that interest increases with every passing year.All sports consist of rules Naturally; there are specific racing rules and principles in the Bosphorus Swimming Competition which involves swimming approximately 6.5 km in a difficult course.This handbook prepared by the TMOK, which includes rules for participation and general information about the competition – along with recommendations, is respectfully presented for the information and attention of athletes who are devoted to the sport of swimming and who wish to participate in the race. Athletes who plan to participate in this event hereby agree to abide by these rules and regulations.
