Après trois ans d'absence, elle crée un scandale aux États-Unis le 1er février 2004 lorsqu'elle dévoile un sein avec Justin Timberlake au SuperBowl. Cet événement a pour conséquence le sabordage pur et simple de la promotion de son huitième opus : Damita Jo. En effet, s'il se vend à plus d'un million d'exemplaires aux USA, il ne brille guère dans les classement mondiaux, bien au contraire : le flop en Europe et en Asie est pour ainsi dire total. Le nouvel album de Janet Jackson est dans les bac depuis le 26 septembre et s'intitule "20 Y.O." avec comme premier extrait "Call on me" qui connaît un succès d'estime aux Etats-Unis.
