The 10-foot-tall Robocop statue is making progress for the 2014 unveiling.
The city of Detroit could be getting its very own statue of 'Robocop'.
Initially the project debuted on Kickstarter.com in 2011. The designers aimed for a $50,000 goal and actually ended up surpassing that amount.
Although the statue is not done yet, Fred Barton is the name behind the elaborate sculpting. Across The Board Creations is the company responsible for the digital enlarging, fabrication, 3D scanning along with assembly in foam, wax, clay, and steel.
Yes, the standing Detroit- bound figure is anything but standard. Preliminary photos of Robocop show a larger-than-life robot. One image depicts a human standing next to the statue, looking ridiculously small in comparison to the icon.
The minds behind the project stated “it’s now being 3D scanned, scaled up, and made into foam by Across The Board Creations before being mailed to Detroit for metal casting. Atoms don’t move as fast as pixels, talented tortoises are moving slow and steady!”
The 10-foot tall statue will be a crucial part of the city’s public art landscape. The official unveiling is slated for the spring of 2014.
