An animal control officer recues a dog found nursing a cat.

It's remarkable to see a pet rescuing a fellow animal.

An animal control officer in South Carolina, Michelle Smith, went by a creek in Anderson behind a Home Depot store. A local resident notified authorities that a dog had been barking for several days.

Smith was able to locate the female pooch with an unlikely companion. At the bottom of an embankment, the canine was nursing a young kitten.

The officer rescued the small pooch along with the cat and brought them to Anderson County P.AW.S. Smith claims the dog is taking good care of the kitty, providing nourishment and cleaning it. Animal control workers hope the pair will be adopted together.

Last year, a dog in Minnesota, named Mittens became a mother to a tiny kitten. The pooch owner’s grandson found the weak and unhealthy cat in a nearby barn.

The family took in the kitty and kept it warm. Mittens took notice and began caring for it.

She soon began producing milk and as a happy ending, the little feline became a permanent member of the household.
