Dennis Rodman tweets a plea to the North Korean dictator to free an American prisoner.
Dennis Rodman and Kim Jong Un have an unlikely bond. Recently Rodman tweeted a plea to the North Korean leader for the release of an American prisoner.
44-year-old Kenneth Bae, who worked as a tour operator, has been incarcerated for approximately 6 months for allegedly “committing hostile acts” in the country.
The state department has asked for his immediate release and Rodman has since stepped in, with a tweet that says “I'm calling on the Supreme Leader of North Korea or as I call him "Kim", to do me a solid and cut Kenneth Bae loose.”
According to human rights activists in South Korea, it is believed Bae may have taken photos of public executions and malnourished children which upset the North Korean authorities. Many think the regime is holding Bae as part of a ploy to negotiate with the United States to remove the sanctions imposed after their nuclear test.
Rodman returned from North Korea in February. Of Kim Jong Un's threats to unleash a nuclear weapon, Rodman offered, "He just wants to be loved. He just wants to sit down and talk. That's all."
