Unusual baby names that are banned in New Zealand.
Who knows if it’s the pain, the overwhelming joy or something else, but some people pick completely bizarre names for their children.
Luckily, in New Zealand there’s a government department to stop them from making it permanent.
The country's Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages recently made their list of rejected names public.
One of its more surprising aspects is how many parents can have the same bad idea.
The name “Lucifer” has been turned down six times in the past 12 years. Messiah was requested and vetoed twice.
The rule states that no name can be offensive, too long, or resemble an official title.
Also disallowed were names using only punctuation marks.
They’re not total sticklers – in 2008 a pair of twins was named “Benson” and “Hedges”. There’s also somebody walking around with the moniker “Number 16 Bus Shelter”.
Hard to say why parents pick the names they do, but at least Goldenpalacedotcom Silverman can say his parents did it for the money. In 2005 the online casino gave the proud parents 15 thousand dollars to name their baby boy after the website.
