An upscale supermarket proposal has a garden roof.
A new proposal in China offers a unique perspective into what future supermarkets could look like.
Dutch company, NL Architects, was recruited to design a grocery store that would blend in with the tropical resort setting of the town of Sanya.
A real estate company is in the middle of developing a resort in Sanya and needed a place for tourists where they could shop for produce. NL architects devised the masterpiece called Super Market Sanya Lake Park.
Their novel idea was to locate the bulk of the shopping underground with an inviting above ground pavilion entrance. On the top of the stair-like, multi-level structure is a green, terraced park. The supermarket is below ground level along with parking spaces for customers and delivery operations.
Numerous other retail spaces are placed on the street level side of the building. The roofline stands out, not only complimenting but enhancing the tropical environment.
The elevated terraced rooftop, complete with tropical vegetation, benches, tables and chairs, allows customers to sit and enjoy the view from up high.
What do you think of the concept?
