Learn about the world's largest falcon hospital in Abu Dhabi.

Falcons have been an integral part of UAE's history and culture.

The New York Times recently profiled the world's largest falcon hospital in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The medical establishment opened its doors in 1999 and today the staff treats over 6,000 falcons each year.

Well known for being an established veterinary clinic for falcons, the facility offers educational programs, along with training and research events. In 2006, the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital began taking in all kinds of avian and poultry species for medical care. One year later, the established hospital opened its doors to tourists, allowing visitors to tour the facility.

Now the hospital also runs its own breeding center. With 250 rooms designated for falcons, there is also a pox area, operating rooms and an ophthalmology department.

The hospital director states “Falcons are regarded like children in a family. The way the Emirati falconers treat their falcons like their family members makes this work so much more precious.”
