Is Cupcake Craze Over?

Is the cupcake craze over?

Apparently, people are over the gourmet cupcake craze. Bakery chain Crumbs stock, which hit a high in 2011 at 13 dollars a share, recently plummeted to a dollar and 29 cents.

The company has cut its earning estimates for 2013 by approximately 16 million dollars.

It doesn’t appear that the reason is because people are buying their cupcakes elsewhere. Overall, it could be that people just don’t want cupcakes anymore.

Darren Tristano, a food industry consultant, said, "It's a short-term trend and we're starting to see a real saturation. Demand is flat. And quite frankly, people can bake cupcakes."

As we live in a society that does not like to go trendless, many experts have ventured a guess at what the next new dessert thing will be.

Doughnuts and pie appear to be big contenders. Portland’s Voodoo Doughnuts is already whipping up groundbreaking flavors like maple bacon, Captain Crunch, marshmallow, and peanut butter.

Pie is taking hold of the portable desert reins in New York and San Francisco. The abundance of choices includes everything from traditional apple to bourbon and sweet potato.
