A blue diamond sells for over $1.5 million per carat.

A stunning blue diamond ring recently sold for a shocking $1.8 million per carat, with a final selling price of over $9.5 million.

Among a group of aggressive and anxious jewel experts from across the world, Graff Diamonds had the winning bid. The massive blue rock was part of an auction held by Bonhams in London.

The sale of the blue diamond lasted 10 minutes and proving how desired it was, over 20 phone lines were lit up by bidders. Believed to have been created in the mid 1960s, the ring features the large blue diamond in the center surrounded by smaller cut jewels.

Last year, a stunning 12.76 carrot pink diamond was unearthed. Named the Argyle Pink Jubilee, it was discovered at Rio Tinto's Argyle diamond mine in Western Australia's East Kimberly region.

According to Argyle Pink Diamond's manager, it took them 26 years of production to unearth this diamond.
